The delegation of Dong Nai Biosphere Reserve visits and works in Sakaerat Biosphere Reserve

      In the framework of co-operation between Dong Nai and Sakaerat Biosphere Reserve, Dong Nai Biosphere Reserve’s group and MAB Vietnam visited Sakaerat biosphere reserve from 23 – 29 March, 2016.


        Sakaerat biosphere reserve is located in the Wang Nam Khieo district, Nakhon Ratchasima province, Northeast Thailand. The station covers an area of 80 km2, established by the Royal Thai government on 19 September, 1967 and joined the United Nations Man and the Biosphere Program in 1976. It is administered by the Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research as a facility for ecological and environmental research.

      Sakaerat biosphere reserve contains of 2 major forest types: Dry Evergreen Forest and Dry Dipterocarp Forest with high biodiversity. It was found to be a place for environmental research and field experience; a natural laboratory for science students as well as a place for ecotourism.

         During the meeting, we exchanged our best practice both in the forest management and protection and in ecotourism development. Dong Nai’s group shared the Green Club’s model for students and local resident and the benefit-sharing mechanism. Sakaerat’s group expressed their success in organizing Science Camp.

     To make the cooperation between two sides into reality, Sakaerat biosphere reserve’s group expects visit Dong Nai biosphere reserve in June and sign the collaboration memorandum.
